While William Wallace certainly was a diehard Scottish patriot who fought tirelessly and furiously against English rule, Mel Gibson took some pretty extreme liberties with the facts when crafting his movie. Making historical shows or movies is not easy, especially when it comes to eras with few known details. Therefore, shows like The Last Kingdom, can be forgiven for the historical inaccuracies that they have depicted.
