Our water is treated municipal water, but we also have a complete whole-house water filtering system, down to 1 micron. I don't believe the water is contaminated in any way when we add it to the bottle. You might want to look into getting some stainless bowls if you can as they will hold up better and be a lot easier to disinfect.
